EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in business administration, public administration, hospitality management, horticulture, agronomy, botany, landscape architecture, or related field. Work experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis. Such experience must have provided the knowledge, skills, and analytical ability normally gained from attainment of a bachelor's degree.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
Three years of experience in managing the overall operation of a major park (e.g., district park), group of parks (e.g., recreation complex), or similar facility, which demonstrated knowledge of facility usage and coordination; and/or administrative experience in managing the maintenance and beautification of a major park or similar facility, which demonstrated technical competence in soil and turf management and landscaping.

Such experience must have demonstrated knowledge of principles and practices of business management, public relations, and supervision; principles, practices, techniques, and methods of turf management; budget preparation, basic accounting, and record-keeping; and the ability to plan, direct, and supervise the work of subordinate staff; develop recreational policies, procedures, rules, and regulations; plan and establish a grounds beautification and maintenance program; plan the development and growth of the regional park; establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with staff, representatives of other departments, community groups, and the general public; and deal effectively with employees, volunteers, and the public.

LICENSE REQUIREMENT:
Possession of an appropriate valid driver's license. The current vacancy requires a valid driver's license (automobile), prior to appointment.

Job Description
Plans, directs, and coordinates a variety of programs and activities involved in the overall management of a regional park, including oversight over the coordination of special events, festivals, recreation programs, etc.; the repair and maintenance of park structures, facilities, and equipment; the beautification and maintenance of landscaped areas, parking lots, roadways, etc.; and the promotion and monitoring of park usage and concessions; and performs other related duties.

There is one vacancy with the Department of Parks and Recreation, Park Maintenance and Recreation Services Division. List may be used to fill future vacancies in this department.

This position manages the Patsy T. Mink Central Oahu Regional Park comprised of eight baseball fields, four softball fields, five multi-purpose fields, twenty tennis courts, one archery range, and concession structures. Work schedule is Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and may involve working weekends, nights, and holidays. Will serve as a Disaster Response worker during declared emergencies.
